History - A walk down memory lane.
High Country Clothing first opened in Taihape on the 28th August 1998. The day was attended by nearly 400, mostly local people that were entertained by Jo Seager who put on a cooking demonstration. Her pumpkin soup was something to savour.
The directors of the Company acknowledged that Taihape needed a clothing outlet that catered for the classic country style of women and men’s wear so set about putting together a team to create what HCC is today. Carol Abraham was employed as manager and the front of the Ruapehu Farm Supplies building was refurbished with timber lining to provide a rustic country feel to match. Carol continued to manage the store until 2007 and was instrumental in getting HCC established as the classic country clothing store that the directors and staff had envisaged.
Initial brands that High Country Clothing (HCC) stocked at the time are still in large the same ones today – RM Williams, IceBreaker, Swanndri, Norsewear, Summit and Thomas Cook which have been the backbone of the business for 26 years.
